Parched Desert of Utah
The scenery changed from one formidable landscape to another when we crossed over into Utah. The desert of Utah was a stark contrast to the beauty of the Rockies.

The California Zephyr
Looking back at the California Zephyr on a fairly sharp turn. The car with the long windows and windows in the roof is the Lounge Car. There is a cafe on the lower level that serves everything from wine to hot dogs. The upper level has tables around which groups gather to play board games or cards. There are seats facing the windows to lounge on and enjoy the scenery. (The picture is a little hazy because this is shot through the windows of our roomette.)

Not quite a rabbit hole
Much bigger than that! The redwoods at Big Sur reached for the sky and had mysterious entrances like this one, which was over 6 feet high.

Full moon over San Francisco
Slightly over-exposed. A combination of not knowing how to work the camera, cold wind and not being able to see too well in the dark.

Golden Gate Bridge
A long exposure picture of the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco. I still have to figure out how best to take these pictures. It was very windy that night and I was without my tripod.

Blue Jay
An over-friendly fearless blue jay on my tent. We camped at Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park. My cell phone had no signal but wireless internet was available near the camp store.

Big Sur Coastline
The gorgeous coast of Big Sur peeks out from the quickly enveloping fog, a common feature in this area.

Golden wheat
Golden wheat that we took from the fields, raked and forked into a wagon, threshed and winnowed, ground in a mechanical flour mill to make delicious fresh pancakes.

Edge of the top of the world
A snowy summer day on Pikes Peak, 14110 feet above sea-level. The Cog Railway stops right at the edge of the Peak.
